A Homebrew Beer Recipe

Style (BJCP): 
06A. American Pale Ales - American Pale Ale
Extract Ingredients: 
  • 8 lbs Light Malt Extract
  • .5 Flaked Wheat
  • 1 oz Simcoe
  • 1 oz Amarillo
  • 1 oz Mosaic
  • Safale US-05, Wyeast 1056 or WL California Ale yeast
Extract Instructions: 
  1. Steep Grains in bag @ 155 for 30 minutes in 3 quarts of water.
  2. Rinse grains with 1.5 quarts of water at 170 degrees. Add water to make 3 gallons.
  3. Bring to a boil. Turn off heat. Add 1/2 of the LME. Stir until dissolved.
  4. Return to boil . Start timer for 60 minutes. Add hops according to schedule.
  5. At 15 minutes left in the boil, turn off heat and add the rest of the LME. Stir until dissolved.
  6. Return to boil. Add irish moss (optional).
  7. At the end of the boil, cool wort with ice bath or wort chiller to 120 degrees (add 1 oz Amarillo hops, .5 oz Simcoe and Mosaic hops during the cool down).
  8. Pour into fermenter. Add water to reach total volume of 5 gallons. Aerate.
  9. Take gravity reading. Pitch yeast.
  10. Ferment at room temperature for 7 days.
  11. Transfer to secondary (add dry hops) for an additional 7 days.
All Grain Ingredients: 
  • 10 lbs Gambrinus Pils
  • 1 lb Carapils (Dextrin)
  • .5 Flaked Wheat
  • 1 oz Simcoe
  • 1 oz Amarillo
  • 1 oz Mosaic
  • Safale US-05, Wyeast 1056 or WL California Ale yeast
All Grain Instructions: 
  1. Strike grains with 3.63 gal of water at 167.4 °F.
  2. Mash at 150 °F for 60 min. Vorlauf and lauter 2.13 gal in your first runnings.
  3. Add 3.97 gal of sparge water at 168 °F. Vorlauf and lauter 3.97 gal in your second runnings.
  4. Your combined runnings should be 6.1 gal.
  5. Pitch yeast at 70 °F
